Even though we have all come through a crazy year with our changing environment for both business and health, we here at James Boat and Fiberglass (& Upholstery) Repair have remained busy!
So, in order to improve our workload and customer experience, we've decided to expand! The good news is, we've basically moved only a couple doors down from where we have been servicing and running our Upholstery Shop to a bigger double sized unit that will allow us to do even more. We are excited to announce our new address as 420 Gateway Dr, Suite D, Dixon, CA 95620 If you knew our previous shop, at 430 Gateway, you'll realize we are in the same complex, just a couple doors down. But it gives us more than double the room and will make things better for us and for you. So, come by and take a look!

SMOKE DAMAGE??
We have had WAY more than our fair share of fires this season here in Northern CA, and many have been in or near areas with large lakes where boats are stored in marinas or moored nearby. While we have had smoke (and lots of it) within our neighborhoods all across the West, many folk's boats have had it even worse, some within very close proximity to fires and a TON of smoke. Smoke can be devastating to a vessel. Once smoke gets into fabrics on a boat like vinyl, fabric, wood, rope and more, it's nearly impossible to get out. That means your boat will ALWAYS smell like smoke or you are tasked with replacement of the porous surfaces that "soaked up" those toxic fumes. Not only does James Boat and Fiberglass Repair have a reputation that is unparalleled within the Insurance industry for repair and replacement of damaged boats, but our Upholstery shop and the fact we are a licensed boat accessory and repair facility allows us to be in the unique position of being able to assist and help with getting your smoke damaged boat back to it's original non-smokey self! While we are at it, you can upgrade too. There are lots of ways to do that, as evidenced by photos in our gallery and prior blog posts (News tab) including upgrading your upholstery, adding accessories like towers or sound systems, adding SeaDek flooring or new carpet, freshening with new graphics and much more. Or, just replace back to the original clean-smelling state that you had before the wildfires and smoke rolled in. Either way, we are your smoke repair headquarters! Call us today for an inspection and recommendation which will put your vessel on the road to recovery. Recently James just finished up a special job on a houseboat that was on Lake Berryessa. The project called for an off-sight installation of a new very large Bimini top, plus some newly constructed pads for both seating (bench on the top of the houseboat) and a very large sundeck at the back of the boat. The previous top had been a lower grade of canvas and had been worn out and torn. We opted for a Sunbrella Premium fabric that is both sturdy and heavier gauge than most canvas or even the basic Sunbrella canvas. This canvas is stronger and very fade resistant as Sunbrella is famous for. While we were at it, we constructed new seat cushions, all custom fit, with heavy grade foam that is very dense and a patterned Sunbrella fabric cover. The pictures below will show you the finished product. For most projects we like to undertake at our new showroom in Dixon. But this was a special case and due to the size we completed it on site at Lake Berryessa. We think everything turned out great! Thankfully the owner agreed! What do YOU think? Have a big project? Or maybe a smaller one where you could bring your boat to our shop? Give us a call and let's talk about it!
Recently we had a client with a fishing boat come to us and desiring of a new Bimini top for his vessel. The manufacturer did have a solution, but it was very expensive and lacked the design that would allow this gent to fish from under the cover. Straps were in the way, and the low profile would make it difficult to work with his tackle effectively under cover. After discussing with him his needs and desires for this cover, we took some measurements and went to work. The result is we gave him a very sturdy setup with metal posts (providing more space and a much more sturdy top when up and when motoring to and fro around the waterways. For added functionality, we provided heavy duty zippers (1 in Stainless) to allow access to the bow and also casting forward. What do you think? Pretty cool, isn't it? Need a new sunshade for your boat? Give us a call and let's discuss your vision!
As announced recently, we have opened our new "Showroom" at 430 Gateway Dr, Dixon, CA 95620. Here's a map: Here are some photos of the new shop and work going on currently. We've got more to do to dress it up here, but we are open and producing great upholstery, graphics and stereo (and racks and other accessories) work here now! Here are some looks into the new digs. Come see us soon! We'll do the big stuff (Fiberglass, Gelcoat, etc) at our warehouse on Liberty Island Rd, but we'll take your boat there from here even for that work! Give us a call or stop by!
2019 was a very good year for James Boat and Fiberglass Repair - a very good year. But in many ways it was also very challenging. What we've learned is, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Ok, maybe that's from a song, but you get the idea.
Last year in an effort to expand our horizons and offer a storage solution for many of our clients, we had some highs and had some lows. In the end we decided that Dixon was a better place for us, and an outside partner wasn't right for us. What WE do, we can control. So, as 2020 begins, we have reestablished ourselves back in Dixon, where we began. Not only is Dixon the perfect location to service our main areas of concentration - the Delta, Greater Sacramento and the Easy Bay - but we ended up with a two-fer. That is, we have our large warehouse to work on and house the vessels we are transforming, but we added a showroom right near the freeway, with excellent access and visibility. That should aide us in providing great service and easy ingress and egress for our clientele. We'll get some pictures of the new place and post them soon. In the meantime, now you can come see and interact with us directly at the showroom at 430 Gateway Dr, Dixon. It's right off the freeway (I-80). You can even drop your vessel there and we'll take it out to our workspace for you. Easy peazy! In addition you can check out our Upholstery Shop (right there at Gateway) and even see some Accessory options there. We hope you enjoy the change and new access, and it provides a superior customer service experience for you! We'd like to thank those who have done business with us in the past and appreciate all your referrals. It's YOU who drive our business forward and allow us to continue to grow and provide more for you along the way. Thank you from all of us at James' Boat and Fiberglass Repair, and Happy New Year! Oh, one last thing: It's also a reality of doing business with the public that no matter how well we do, sometimes a client might be dissatisfied. We NEVER want that, but at times, however infrequent, it happens. We want you our clients to know, that we strive to do the right thing EVERY TIME, and ALWAYS want you to be completely satisfied with your interaction with us. If we ever fall short, please know that we value your input and will always reach to resolve every issue. Thank you again for your business! For those of us who love boating, we tend to take good care of our boats. Wiping her down, covering her for the Winter, and similar actions to keep her ready for the next trip out. Sometimes though, things happen out there, and even on occasion accidents occur. Regardless of mishaps, Father Time can take his toll on our vessels, and they simply get a bit "dated". Fortunately, either thing is fixable. In the case of this recent job, this 2004 Maxim 29E had an accident, AND was a little dated. So, we fixed up the damaged fiberglass and then went to the task of updating this beauty to the potential boat she could be. In this case, we completely reupholstered the inside and added new SeaDek flooring. We built custom loungers for the bow that are both comfortable and perfectly situated for that stellar summertime tan. We remade the cabin, with upgrades everywhere, including a LARGE flat screen TV for your own entertainment area. Then, after spiffing her up everywhere externally, we gave her both above water and below water lighting that just looks, well, stunning! Check her out! Give us a call at (530) 723-3410 today and let's talk about the possibilities for YOUR baby!
For the past several years James' Boat and Fiberglass Repair has been operating in large warehouses. Cold, but useful places. Plenty of room to work, and store our client's vessels.
Announcing, for the first time, a dedicated "showroom" where we can house our stellar Upholstery Shop, and use the space to show off some of our eye-popping work! Our new place is located at 430 Gateway Dr, in Dixon. The building is brand new and we're very excited to have this opportunity! Our warehouse is still out on Liberty Island Rd, and we'll continue to tackle the fiberglass and other large scale duties out there. Note that we have both addresses listed at the bottom of our website. So, stop by and say "hello"! We'd love to see you there, and look for a special event likely in the Spring to kick things off for the season. In the meantime, take advantage of the "off season" to get your boat dialed in for the upcoming boating season. Great start with the stream of rain we've had lately! This MasterCraft came to us in rundown shape, needing a bit of TLC. So, we got to work and revamped her! The exterior got a polish and rubdown of the body, and new graphics were added. Viola! New looking boat! But we weren't finished. Time for the interior. We covered all the seating areas in bright red with gray accents to match the exterior graphics. Then we added the beautiful matching SeaDek flooring to the floor of the boat and also the rear swim deck. And just like that, she looks brand new! Now is the PERFECT time to give your boat some of it's OWN TLC! It's the off season and while we are busy, it's not quite as crazy as during the summer months. Why not give you and your crew a present for Christmas? Spruce up your vessel and you don't have to buy a brand new boat to have one that looks (and performs) brand new!
CALL James at (530) 723-3410 and let's talk about your project! As we have continued to grow our business, we have decided to get a brand new facility for our dedicated Upholstery Shop! It's closer to the freeway for easy in and out, plus its a brand new facility which will allow us to do amazing work for our clients. We will also do accessories installations, detailing and some other related work there as well. The new address is: 430 Gateway Dr, Dixon, CA 95620 As our repair shop is a large warehouse out in the countryside, this will make it MUCH easier for our clients, both repeat and new, to check in with us.
Thank you to ALL of our wonderful customers! It's YOUR continued loyalty to James' Boat and Fiberglass Repair (and Upholstery!) that has helped us grow into one of Northern California's premier boat repair facilities! Come see us, we are right off the freeway in Dixon! |
