Recently we received a call from a very well known maker of outstanding fishing crafts, and they asked if we could accommodate a good customer of theirs with a custom top, incorporating the latest polycarbonate material for windows within the cover. Of course we accepted the challenge! The result was nothing short of stunning. This stuff, called Tuffak, is amazing! It's unbelievably clear, durable and flexible, and it's designed to stay that way. Check out the pictures of the finished product below! Do you need a new cover or bimini for your boat? Give us a call and let's get it set up for you! Or, if you are in the neighborhood, stop by and let's talk!

As we told you a few months ago, we have relocated in a larger facility in the complex off Gateway Dr in Davis, CA. Our upholstery shop has been especially busy, and we have been doing more jobs than ever before.
To make sure we always offer "State of the Art" service and performance in our shop, we are continuing education for more intricate and skilled jobs, including special stitching and colors we haven't previously offered. Stay tuned for a big announcement when we are fully equipped for these new specialized jobs! In the meantime, we have increased our visibility along the I-80 corridor between Vacaville and Sacramento for our shop in Dixon by putting up our new lighted freeway sign! This beauty is visible for both East and Westbound directions and we couldn't be prouder! Look for it the next time you are traveling by! As always, our shop is located at 420 Gateway Dr, Suite D, in Dixon, CA. The big sign on the freeway will help you find us! We recently received this very nice entry/feedback through our Contact page on the website. We thought you might like to see it. "Hey man, I wanted to leave a second Google review but apparently if you've left one it won't let you do another. I just wanted to say that it's been nearly 2 years and I think I love the top and full canvas you made for my boat more now than I did then. It has held up incredibly well, and is still in great condition. The framework is still solid and sound, and I'm just really, really glad I got the work done through you. I don't know if you can post this testimonial or whatever, but I thought it was worth following up with you - all products are pretty good when they're new. My top and canvas full cover have been used a LOT since getting them and they are STILL good. I started guiding during the pandemic and so have been fishing nearly every weekend for almost a year. The bimini top gets used allll the time and it's in just as good a condition now as it was when I left your parking lot. Says a lot about the attention and care you put into your service, your products and your customers. Just thought you'd want to know. Have a great day! --Tom Mailey, Roseville CA We are delighted that YOU are happy Tom, and gratified to know that what we set out to do, the very BEST for our clients, has worked out beautifully for you! Thanks so much for the kind words! Need a Bimini top for your vessel? We can produce a custom fit beauty for you that will add pizzazz and function to your rig! Give us a call or visit our Contact page and let's talk about your boat and how we can help shade her, and you!
Just recently completed this 2005 Ski Nautique for a client and wanted to show it off! We are able to replicate OEM-look upholstery (what it came with new) and even "jazz it up" a bit too. In this case, we added a little color and stitching to show it off a touch better than new! Check out the pics below. Need an update on your vessel? Give us a call and let's get you on our calendar!
The more we do (and we are very busy!) the more choices we are giving our clients.
Take this Cobalt 262 for example. The interior had shown some wear for this owner and they were ready to replace their upholstery. Well, little did they know that they could choose this amazing rich-looking Euro-style brown interior material and even a complementary SeaDek color to complete the new look! Check out the pictures below and think about the possibilities for YOUR vessel! This owner was headed for Lake Havasu Arizona for a trip that's been planned, but will be returning for even more upgrades when they come home. More photos to come! Even though we have all come through a crazy year with our changing environment for both business and health, we here at James Boat and Fiberglass (& Upholstery) Repair have remained busy!
So, in order to improve our workload and customer experience, we've decided to expand! The good news is, we've basically moved only a couple doors down from where we have been servicing and running our Upholstery Shop to a bigger double sized unit that will allow us to do even more. We are excited to announce our new address as 420 Gateway Dr, Suite D, Dixon, CA 95620 If you knew our previous shop, at 430 Gateway, you'll realize we are in the same complex, just a couple doors down. But it gives us more than double the room and will make things better for us and for you. So, come by and take a look! SMOKE DAMAGE??
We have had WAY more than our fair share of fires this season here in Northern CA, and many have been in or near areas with large lakes where boats are stored in marinas or moored nearby. While we have had smoke (and lots of it) within our neighborhoods all across the West, many folk's boats have had it even worse, some within very close proximity to fires and a TON of smoke. Smoke can be devastating to a vessel. Once smoke gets into fabrics on a boat like vinyl, fabric, wood, rope and more, it's nearly impossible to get out. That means your boat will ALWAYS smell like smoke or you are tasked with replacement of the porous surfaces that "soaked up" those toxic fumes. Not only does James Boat and Fiberglass Repair have a reputation that is unparalleled within the Insurance industry for repair and replacement of damaged boats, but our Upholstery shop and the fact we are a licensed boat accessory and repair facility allows us to be in the unique position of being able to assist and help with getting your smoke damaged boat back to it's original non-smokey self! While we are at it, you can upgrade too. There are lots of ways to do that, as evidenced by photos in our gallery and prior blog posts (News tab) including upgrading your upholstery, adding accessories like towers or sound systems, adding SeaDek flooring or new carpet, freshening with new graphics and much more. Or, just replace back to the original clean-smelling state that you had before the wildfires and smoke rolled in. Either way, we are your smoke repair headquarters! Call us today for an inspection and recommendation which will put your vessel on the road to recovery. Recently James just finished up a special job on a houseboat that was on Lake Berryessa. The project called for an off-sight installation of a new very large Bimini top, plus some newly constructed pads for both seating (bench on the top of the houseboat) and a very large sundeck at the back of the boat. The previous top had been a lower grade of canvas and had been worn out and torn. We opted for a Sunbrella Premium fabric that is both sturdy and heavier gauge than most canvas or even the basic Sunbrella canvas. This canvas is stronger and very fade resistant as Sunbrella is famous for. While we were at it, we constructed new seat cushions, all custom fit, with heavy grade foam that is very dense and a patterned Sunbrella fabric cover. The pictures below will show you the finished product. For most projects we like to undertake at our new showroom in Dixon. But this was a special case and due to the size we completed it on site at Lake Berryessa. We think everything turned out great! Thankfully the owner agreed! What do YOU think? Have a big project? Or maybe a smaller one where you could bring your boat to our shop? Give us a call and let's talk about it!
Recently we had a client with a fishing boat come to us and desiring of a new Bimini top for his vessel. The manufacturer did have a solution, but it was very expensive and lacked the design that would allow this gent to fish from under the cover. Straps were in the way, and the low profile would make it difficult to work with his tackle effectively under cover. After discussing with him his needs and desires for this cover, we took some measurements and went to work. The result is we gave him a very sturdy setup with metal posts (providing more space and a much more sturdy top when up and when motoring to and fro around the waterways. For added functionality, we provided heavy duty zippers (1 in Stainless) to allow access to the bow and also casting forward. What do you think? Pretty cool, isn't it? Need a new sunshade for your boat? Give us a call and let's discuss your vision!
As announced recently, we have opened our new "Showroom" at 430 Gateway Dr, Dixon, CA 95620. Here's a map: Here are some photos of the new shop and work going on currently. We've got more to do to dress it up here, but we are open and producing great upholstery, graphics and stereo (and racks and other accessories) work here now! Here are some looks into the new digs. Come see us soon! We'll do the big stuff (Fiberglass, Gelcoat, etc) at our warehouse on Liberty Island Rd, but we'll take your boat there from here even for that work! Give us a call or stop by!
